The more capable you are,
the easier it is to override yourself.
I couldn't believe what I heard on the phone. After years of building a start-up from scratch as the #1 employee, I was cut from the team. Spreading myself too thin across too many projects, I over optimized myself right out of my dream job.
That's when I started applying performance psychology techniques to prioritize time in deep work, and expand my capacity to create. As a consultant inside high-pressure productivity cultures, I recognized a pattern: the more disciplined and capable you are, the easier it is for a busy calendar to override your own energy, intuition, and creative intelligence.
After tucking a heart rate variability monitor behind my ear to test my performance psychology techniques, clients immediately noticed. My career took a leap with nationally recognized clients like AdventHealth, Chicago Public Schools, Coca-Cola, Greater Houston Community Foundation, and Save the Sound. Best of all, I transitioned from 60- to 30-hour work weeks, carving out time on weeknights for passion projects like marathon training, watercolors, and quality time with family and friends.
